Rick retired in July of 2022 as a commander with the Aurora (IL) Police Department. He began his law enforcement career in 1992 as a Corrections Deputy with the Kane County Sheriff's Office before joining APD in 1993. Throughout his career, Rick worked in various capacities, including Uniformed Patrol, Training, Intel, and the Special Operations Group (Gang and Drug Unit). In 1995, Rick was selected as a member of the Department's Special Response Team, where he served in as an operator, sniper, master breacher, team leader, and team commander. Rick completed training at the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy (Session #254) and the Harvard Kennedy School for Senior Executives in State and Local Government program.
